FOREWORD

The Institute of Christian Counseling (ICC), is maintained by the Church Alive International, Inc., an interdependent, autonomous Christian body and ministry, that seeks to glority Christ by meeting locally, and raising up ministry groups around the world, causing personal growth in each individual believer, and causing each believer and local fellowship to become a totally active interdependent ministry to the body and the world they contact daily.

We believe that God's purpose in both creation and salvation, New and Old Testaments, is: RAISING UP A PEOPLE OF DESTINY, CREATED IN THE IMAGE OF GOD, and that it is the chuuch's calling to carry this out by MEETING JESUS, MEETING DAILY, MEETING NEEDS

The ICC is not a college, university or seminary, but teaching  center and a repository of learning authorized by the National Christian Counselors Association (NCCA), and is accredited by the Accrediting  Commission International for Schools, Colleges and Theological Seminaries (ACI).

We offer educational courses on behalf of the NCCA, and more than a dozen degree granting post-secondary educational institutions.  We are able to teach, train and supervise students for counseling certification and licensure, as well as a diploma through a doctoral degree.

In the granting of degrees, the student works directly with ICC, who represents them to the NCCA who inturn, represents them to the academic institution of their choice, while being able to remain at their job, thus earning  and saving money, while at same time assimillating what they are learning, to be retained long after formal education ends.

IMPORTANT NOTE

_____________________
License Distinction
NCCA's Certification/Licensing Program is not to be confused with state license.  Most states have regulatory laws governing the practice of Psychology, Mental Health and Social workers.  Many also have laws governing the practice of general counseling.  These laws vary from state to state.  The purpose of state regulatory laws is to protect the public and to ensure professionalism within the counseling within the counseling profession.  The NCCA and ICC strive to attain a similar goal within the Chuch community, and at the same time, operate so as not to infringe upon other legal guidelines set forth by state regulation.

The state and federal government have jurisdictional boundaries also.  They cannot pass laws that prevent the church from fulfilling its purpose and ministering to the needs of humanity.  The state recognizes that counseling is one of the responsibilities of the church and the its clergy.  For this reason, the state does not (and must never be permitted to) intergere with the "ministry" of counseling.

The major difference between state licensed professional counselors and Pastoral/Christian counselors, who are licensed by the NCCA and are under the authority of the Church (Body of Christ) is clear and well defined.  Counselors who have been licensed by the state are held to strict ethical standards, which mandate an individual's right to be free from religous interference.  The state licensed professional is forbidden to initiate prayer, read or refer to the Scriptures, counsel against such things as homosexuality, abortion, etc.  The only time a state licensed counselor can involve religious (Christian) principles, morals, activities, etc., is if the counselee initiates or requests counsel in this area.  In contrast, Pastoral/Christian counselors are required to pray, share their faith, read the Scriptures, etc.  The fact that Pastoral/Christian counselors "do these things" is how one can clearly tell the difference.  We do not do many of the things that state licensed counselors do in counseling and they do not do many of the things Pastoral/Christian counselors do.  None of this is to say that the Christian counselor, minister or priest is not permitted to request fees and receive remuneration for the services they render.  Therefore:

NCCA and ICC require all who apply for certification or licensure to:
Be credentialed ministers whose goal is to evangelize and ease the emotional/spiritual pain of humanity.
Provide their  service under the authority of a legally organized local church or national church organization.
Complete specialized training that includes Temperament Theory and Therapy.
To read and follow the NCCA Code of Ethical Standards.

All enrollment is conditional.  Upon receipt of your enrollment agreement, ICC will determine your eligibility.  If accepted, you will be notified in writing and the course of study may begin upon receipt of full payment.  The factors involved in the approval for membership are:  1) overall academic performance,  2) verification of references, and  3) evidence of Christian maturity and professionalism.

STATEMENT OF FAITH OF THE CHURCH ALIVE

WE BELIEVE IN:
1.)   One God eternally existing in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit
2.)   The infallibility of the Word of God, and it is our final authority in all matters of life and practice
3.)   The Virgin Birth, Death, Burial and Resurrection of Jesus Christ, and His glorious return and rapture of His Church
4.)   The necessity of salvation as a free gift which is a life transforming new birth, attained by grace through faith in the finished work of Christ
5.)   The ordinances of Baptism in water and the Lord's Table as signs of His work in the Church
6.)  A baptism in the Holy Spirit for effective ministry, and is evidenced by His gifts operating in the believer's life and ministry
7.)   Being filled by the Holy Spirit for Godly living, evidenced by the fruit of the Holy Spirit operating in the believer's life and ministry
8.)   The eternal reward of the righteous and the judgment of the wicked, Satan, and the fallen angels
9.)   The one Church universal, Consisting of all the redeemed, and that each believer is a minister of Christ, and is appointed to maturity
10.)  The authority that comes from ministry, delegated by God, appointed by leadership, bringing a consensus to the body for unity
11.)  A proclamation Gospel, a Christian world view and the imperative to publicly preach, teach and counsel of all of man's sin and of God's loving remedy
12.)  A Church responsible to God alone to educate its children and to train and credential its own workers in all maters of its ministry.
